A California Christmas -- which stars Josh Swickard (Harrison Chase, General Hospital) in a leading role -- is doing so well on Netflix, the streaming service has already ordered a sequel called California Christmas: City Lights.

There's a lot of magic in the Netflix film A California Christmas, which stars General Hospital alum Josh Swickard (Harrison Chase) and his wife, Lorynn York, who also wrote and produced the holiday feature. So much magic, in fact, that Netflix has decided to order a sequel.

As Soap Central previously reported, the original A California Christmas -- currently streaming on Netflix -- follows Swickard as a wealthy businessman who treks to a California farm to convince a hardworking farmer to give up her land. When he's mistaken for the new ranch hand, romance ensues.

According to Variety, the feel-good film, which premiered on December 14, ranked number one in the U.S. for a week and has remained in the top ten since. It even beat out Ryan Murphy's musical The Prom, which stars Meryl Streep, James Corden, and Nicole Kidman, as well as perennial favorites like How the Grinch Stole Christmas for the top spot on the streaming company's most-popular list.

With A California Christmas receiving so much support and attention, executives at Netflix decided they wanted more. So, fans can look forward to its follow-up, titled California Christmas: City Lights. Filming is expected to begin in early 2021 in various parts of northern California, with the announcement of a release date to come later.

Shares Swickard on Instagram, "I will never understand why our little movie has been so well received around the world, but I thank the Lord ever[y] day for this life he's given me."
