Will All My Children have to soldier on to the web without its best known character? No one involved in All My Children's post-ABC production has commented officially, but there are conflicting reports about whether or not Susan Lucci (Erica Kane) will be a part of AMC after it wraps its run on broadcast television in September.
While it may seem inconceivable for AMC to continue without its marquee star, so far none of All My Children's current stars have indicated that they'll appear on the show when it begins broadcasting on the Internet under a licensing deal ABC struck up with Prospect Park, a media and production company.
Citing "highly reliable buzz," TVGuide's Michael Logan announced that Lucci "has agreed to move on with the show" for its Internet launch. Logan did, however, add a bit of an asterisk to his statement.
"[T]o what extent she'll participate or for how long isn't clear," Logan added.
Another publication, though, has reported that Lucci has not made any such agreement.
"I don't think she's made any decisions," one of Lucci's reps told Soaps In Depth. "She's talking to lots of people, and to the best of my knowledge, she hasn't made any plans."
Lucci has been with All My Children since the show's debut in 1970. Arguably one of the most recognized performers in daytime television history, Lucci is the only remaining original cast member still on contract with AMC. In 1999, after a streak of 19 nominations, Lucci finally earned her first -- and so far only -- Daytime Emmy.
Earlier this month, Lucci's co-star, Vincent Irizarry (David Hayward), dismissed rumors that he had already inked a deal to appear on the web-based All My Children.
